195/70/r14 front and 205/70/r14 rear on mk1

The fronts would likely rub the spring perch, since they are quite a bit taller than the stock tires. I would not put taller tires on an MR2 - that just raises the car and adds more sidewall to the tire which makes it feel sloppy. Stay with the 60 series that are the stock sizes, or even 55 series to lower it a little.
