PNW Members - Anyone Know This Car?

https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/c...929349637.html

Was originally an Oregon MR2 and is now in Washington. Original Turbo Swap was done by a shop in Portland and was rebuilt by Rat2 in Washington. Good deal if can negotiate a lower price or risky purchase?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

There are a lot of good parts on that car, that standalone is worth a lot of money in a part out. Too bad the TRD braces aren't included, those are worth a lot as well but the sway bars that are included are very hard to find.

I would venture to say that the turbo is a modified CT20b that would be a plus if so. The engine work looks very nice as well, if you can take a good battery with you to hear it crank that would give me more confidence in the purchase.

It looks like there is plenty of dericing to do but the interior looks solid and if the paint is nice only needing front bumper work I'd feel pretty good about it. Is this your first MR2? If so do you have an experienced friend who could help you with it?

Thanks for the response! Going to look at it tomorrow. Got additional pics via text and of course, does not look as good as the ad. Not my first MR2, but first Turbo. The NW community seems very helpful. What would you say is a good negotiating price said mods and maybe decent chassis?

What wheels are on the car and what is the size? If they're real and a good size my offer would be better.

My plan for the car would be to try to bring it back to stockish. The CT20b is a great turbo for a first turbo MR2, I wouldn't upgrade it. If you have a tuner who is good with the AEM I would keep the standalone if not I would try to sell it and convert to a gen3 3sgte ecu. It's plug and play once you find all of the parts and 100% oem reliable for 330whp so they say with 93 octane.

I would bet that the engine is mechanically good if not you'd probably need to be ready to swap a gen4. I think you could make it a wash by selling all of the gen2 parts you wouldn't need if you include the AEM.

Remember if this car turns out to be a complete unrecoverable mess you will have the LSD transmission and axles to sell (they are rare). Looks like you get 94+ tail lights too those are a good value too if they aren't cracked. The leather interior door panels and seats are worth money if you got that drivers seat fixed it's pretty rare to see a black leather seat in that condition even. Like I said the TRD sway bars are rare as are the strut tower braces but those aren't included sadly.

I would offer $6500 if I could hear the engine crank and it sounded even, if you could do a compression test that would be even better, maybe $6000 without a compression test? I don't think you could lose on this car as long as rust isn't a problem and you are able to diagnose a turbo engine on a standalone ecu. You're buying someone else's problem here expect extensive troubleshooting especially if they hacked up the engine wiring harness.

I don't know how many I've seen of these "just needs a sensor to run" and they always turn into something in between an exorcism and a complete rebuild. I would never offer more than $1,000 for a car that does not run. If it's that simple, the guy should just swap out the sensor and buy a new battery, and sell the car for $12,000.

Yeah that's s lot of cash to gamble on a non running car. I doubt I could get 12 large for my 93 with a 2gr swap. Especially on cheap_____ list.

There's more to the sellers story however, it does have potential as a 'project' or supposed 'rare' parts car. Chassis is straight but, tons of dents and would need a respray. Engine cranked and sounded even. Would be a steal for the right buyer.

Was it swapped by Rat2 and would you give rides? Plan is to find a good chassis for a 2GR swap.
