Newbie Help needed with MR2 Purchase

I'm looking to buy an NA MR2 in the next few weeks, I'm considering both 1st and 2nd gens. I'm having some major confusion with 2nd gens. From what I was able to gather from searching is that there are differences between the 93+ and pre 93 cars, with suspension. Did I miss anything?

Also the performance numbers don't look all that promising for a 2L, so what kind of potential do these cars have? Again from the search function I got the idea that there is a better JDM motor available, how does this work out performance wise?

I have driven a 1st gen and I loved the 4AG. I'm going to test drive a 2ng gen NA this weekend and I'm bracing myself for a letdown, will there be one?

there are more differences, this is taken from the mr2 faq on www.mr2.com, it compares the 93 with the 92

Suspension upgraded and retuned (stiffer springs,
lengthened trailing arms) Normally aspirated engine
receives upgrade to 135hp. Synchros in 5 speed gearbox
improved. Wider tires, new 15" ("square" spoke) wheels.
Larger brake rotors. Larger throttle body, retuned throttle cam.

about performance, did u mean the 2L turbo or the 2.2L na? for the 2L turbo, it has a lot of potential, very tunable. Also the JDM 2L turbo is pretty much the same as ours, the only difference (if i'm wrong someone correct me) is that the turbo runs to a higher boost, and some changes to the ECU.
Not too sure about the NA but i'm quite sure it has a lot of potential too, just depends on how much u want to spend. the 2L turbo is somewhat easier to make power gains by just getting a boost controller and raising the boost. NA will require a lot of work but u cant beat the sound of a nicely tuned NA engine.
