Hey guys, Thanks for the advice. I'll call Ground Control. I'm going to stick with my 15" wheels until my tires are gone then I'll seriously look into 13" replacements. I think my car needs a large weight loss program too.

Awesome. Im really thinking about stepping up to full racing slicks. How often do you replace them in a season? I have about 11 races here in Hawaii per season.

Like any other tire, the number of events you can get out of them depends on how hard you and your car are on tires and how far you are willing to run them.

I am pretty easy on tires, as is the car. (A well setup car usually is easy on tires) But slicks typically go off before they wear out. I ran DOT Hoosier radials from introduction in '96 through '04 and found the last few versions of the A series to have similar life to the slicks.

I maintain two to three sets of mounted "dry" tires most of the time. The "primary" set is the set I run important events on; Tours, Pros, Divisionals, etc... I will run these about 30 runs (5 to 6 two day events at 3 runs/day). They then get demoted to the option set of wheels. These are the tires/wheels I run local events on. I typically run these another 5-6 events (at 4-6 runs per event) before they get replaced with the next former set of primaries. The option takeoffs, if they have any tread left on them (and they usually do) are then put on the spare wheels for things like fun runs, schools and track days.

This is basically, the same routine that I used for my Hoosier A series tires. However, these usually corded on the inside edge somewhere along the way. I seldom cord the slicks as I typically toss them before they cord.

Alot will depend on the surface, temeratures and compound. I have been running the R35A and there is an R25b available which is softer and an R45 that is harder.

First Event Report: V2.0 survived! 5 runs, with no problems*! (*at the event.)

I was well back from a 100% prepared DP Miata: Steve Hudson, and his co-driver for this year, Drew VanderPloeg, were scrubbing in slicks for the Houston tour. The car felt good even though I was on two year old tires. I really felt the extra weight at the back of the car (not gutted as thourghly as the front) in some tight slaloms, or I was sucking bad there. I don't know. I will need to learn the 2-3-2 shifting a little bit better, as I got that right only once.

About the asterisk: I was pretty sick all week with a head cold. So, Saturday AM, I got up went down to the shop and tinkered with a few things before loading the car up. ight before I was going to load the car up the throttle hung wide open. I discovered the throttle cable had frayed.

I thought I had a spare. And after wasting a couple of hours driving to/from my apt, and the local pick and pull, I decided I would just make my own. The throttle cable itself isn't under high tensile loads, so I bought a 1/16" wire, re-threaded it through the original sheath, and put two loops on the end and crimped them into aluminum ferrules. One loop went around the pedal pull point and the other went around a nut and bold I placed on the linkage on the engine.

It worked well enough, but I made one of the loops too big so there is some slack and I was only able to open to about 7/8ths throttle. I'll tinker with it some while I obtain a new one.

I'm going to have to tinker with pedal positions some to make heel-toeing easier. The brake pedal is too high, or the accelerator is too low.

We survived the Houston Tour. I did have some issues - 3 yr old dead tires, bump steer, and really poor weight balance were not beneficial for fast times against Hudson/VanderPloeg or the Marshalls.

The car is nearly 100# overweight (1841): I have not stripped the wiring harnesses, rear firewall insulation(s), rear bumper, rear body panels, battery, engine lid/trunk lid.

I have RCA's on the way and plans for the rest.

Yep. Mine was just like yours. I installed the T3 RCAs in my CSP car prior to this past sundays race and it helped out A LOT. But I also found that without correcting my tierod location issue, it is just a band aid on the problem for now. I also tried upping my rear spring rates to 450lb/in and it really helped out rotation in tight transitions. Then again, my car is uber heavy due to CSP rules but i still beat a Skyline GT-R.

I got some work done this weekend (work didn't send me out of town for once)

I can report the door bars weigh 8.7 lbs a piece and the sound deadening on the back firewall and cockpit floor (behind seat mount bar) weighs in at 18.7. In all the car lost another 36.1 lbs. Long live the air-chisel.

Making some assumptions, my car is now sub 1800lbs: Day 1 Houston Tour I rolled across the scales at 1841 (1/2 tank of gas too!) I'm sure I burned some gas, and having now lost another 36+ lbs that should be sub-1800!

Prep work has begun to remedy the last of the suspension issues: I am fabbing some front strut mounts from rear struts. On the aesthetics from the car is being painted soon so that it is not 5 colors of red, in fact it should share 'reds' with another marque famous for its midengined cars.
