need ideas for my next project

I am going to be delving into another project here shortly and I cant decide what I want to do. Here are the options so far:

C18 Allison Jet turbine powered MR2, target HP= 400

Some relatively modern V8 American car, turbocharged with my GT42, target HP = 800-1000

1997 Eclipse GST I currently own with a race 4G63 motor, target HP = 700

1989 Mirage/Colt with 4G63 motor swapped in, target HP = 500

1993 Mazda RX7 with 20b turboed motor, target HP = 700-800

Custom crotch rocket built by me with 1.5L 4 cyl 2 stroke motor supercharged, target HP = 300-400

Rally car built from a 1997 Subaru RS, STI motor swapped in and myriad of goodies (Brings me back to my motocross roots ), target HP = 300-400

Custom Chopper (even though im not the biker type)

1997 Honda CX hatch, turboed b22 motor, target HP = 500

Formula car running on a 4AG.

Which of these would you guys choose? I will prolly have a budget of 30-100k (most likely 30k) to apply to one of these projects over the next two years.

Keep in mind what I did with $3,000 on my car now, so with 30-100k I could do some kick ass project.

Any other projects that would be challenging? Right now I am leaning toward the jet powered MR2. This jet drives an output shaft, so I would still have a tranny and such (not propulsion driven).

I was either going to make my own 20b motor (have my machine shop friend make it) or search long and hard in Japan for one. I just want a real challenge in this project. Something new and innovative where I may be able to use it as a tool to get a job in the auto industry.

I say stick a V8 in a little sports car... like an RX-7 or 280Z...

A 20b would be a hell of a lot of fun, but too expensive to be worth it, IMHO.

And anyway... if you're gonna build your own custom 20b, why not build a four-rotor?

Don't do the V8 thing, that's retardedly easy to make big power. All you have to do is replace all the crappy American internals with strong stuff and you have the displacement to go anywhere. That's below you!

The MR2 turbine would be the most difficult. Those idle at 20,000 RPM. However, I do know of one that makes 600 shaft HP that is roughly 70 lbs!! Cessna uses them on the Citation IX Bizjet. You can't beat the power-to-weight! The transmission would be the hang-up! You would have to make a CVT, since the tubine can't spool easily and doesn't make much torque. They also don't like being cycled. Temps would be on-par with a turbo engine, so you already know how to handle that.

Of course, with the transmission, you could always do what turboprops do. They are turbine-driven prop systems. The prop typically spins at about 2% of the turbine RPM. They orient the prop so it's attached to a separate set of turbine blades. Then, the jet blasts the exhaust on those turbine blades and makes them spin. Sort of like our turbos, except they are axial turbines. It's quite efficient really!

I think you should find the incredible combination of light and powerful. A Miata with a 4 liter V6 that's turbocharged. A Mirage with a 4G63. Something like that!

I also think you should look into VATN turbos, as they will give you both low-end spool AND high-end power! Those are somewhat expensive, and current ones top out at around 14 psi, so you would have to run two. With twin intercooling, you could have a hell of an efficient, high-powered car!

Early crappy 4 cylinder Z3, and find a good M5 drivetrain, and put it in. 400HP v8 z3.

But really, a Miata with an engine swap would be perfect. When done, they often turn into really awsome cars. You could do anything, Ford 302, 350 SBC, rotary............or one people havent done much , like a big japanese engine.

You mentioned a formula car...........are you thinking of your own forumula car you created? If so, consider also the idea of creating a track-day sports racing/csr/dsr type car, which are little LMP type cars. Also, dont think about using the 4age...........4ag in Atlantic tune are run in CSR, but Atlantic engines are increadibly expensive and unreliableh when making 240HP. You could use a stock S2000 engine and make that HP and better torque and reliablity, and it would be a perfect match for a sports racing car.
Also consider motorcycle power for a sports racing car.

Im talking about something like the Radical SR3:

or Sr4, which is a racing evolution of the SR3, although less of a trackday car and more a pure racer because its so ugly IMO:

There are many others like this if you are interested

Build a Lotus 7 type kit car with a 500 hp 3SGTE. Out of your choices, I would probably go with the RX7 or turbine powered MR2.
