Problem : My 89 Sc don't have a SC oil dipstick

It has the yellow wingnut , but when you take it out it has
no dip stick.
The SC seem to work OK. I had it about 2 months and thought I would check the SC oil. The yellow wing nut thing looks like it is not broke.
If it is, I don't think the dip stick part is still in the SC.
I guess I can get a new one . But I thought I would ask if anybody
has had this problem.

I don't have one either. My sc doesnt even have a place for one (see pic). However before i found that out I went and bought a new one (dipstick and guide). So now I have a dipstick I can't use.

and the new one.

If you want this one let me know. I'm willing to sell it.

Strange. Maybe Toyota decided to install dipsticks on later model SC12s. My guess is they thought the seals would do a good enough job of keeping the oil in the rear cover.

I would drain the oil and check for metal particles. Its possible the dipstick broke and contacted the gears. You can see the drain plug in this pic of my spare SC cover.

I just need a dipstick not the guide. I guess I could drain it
and put the correct amount back in, but I would still like to
have a new dipstick to check it later.
Hey Seven_mgte, How will you put oil in yours?
How much do you want for the dip stick?
Thanks Seven_mgte and 86AW11 for the info and pics.

I have no idea what I'm going to do to check it. I suppose I could drain it all out, measure the amount and put it back in (or replace it) but that sounds like a huge PITA. In all likelyhood I'm just not going to worry about it. The sc was rebuilt less than a year ago when the PO had it. The rebuild was done at a dealer and hopefully they did it properly. It should last for a while.

I PM'd you about the dipstick.

EDIT: no I didn't, hows 20$ shipped. email me, [email protected]

My sc12 had the same thing. Yellow wingnut but no stick. Looked like it broke off. The oil is clear, but I always have this grayish grease coming out of the sc outlet and into the intercooler. Still boosts fine. Only to 10.4, even though I did do the abv mod. Ran a lot better after the mod, but I had no boost gauge at the time so I don't know what was going on.

Since my engine is out right now I might try and get a hold of another gear cover with a dipstick. Or maybe I will take the sc down to the dealer and say "whats wrong with this picture?"

Any chance you'd sell that spare cover of yours 86AW11?

I hope my dipstick is not still in the SC. Don't the drain plug
have a magnet attached to it? If it does, I going to drain it
and see if there is any metal shavings on it. Then I will refill
it with new SC oil.
