Clear Engine Lid Hood for the AW11

I have 3 clear engine lid hoods that I've formed myself. One of them is on my AW11. I'm putting two of them on ebay and starting the bidding at $1. They're not perfect but are pretty damn kool for a dollar. One out of the two for sale has a small crack and has one warp when it was formed.

Absolutely, I'm a 3d artist for a company in WV that does thermoforming. I have the ability to design it, mill it (the mold) and form it. I have a few other projects that I working on such as gauge pods for the AW11, MkII RX-7 and the WRX. Let me know and I'll be more than happy to work with you on your ideas.

Thanks

What's funny is two weeks ago my buddies and I were discussing doing this with our four or five two's. Not quite the design we were talking about, but pretty cool someone else got the bug for this about the same time. Looks like some sag in the middle from several of the pictures, have you considered a metal frame to sure it up (and to connect to the latch)? That's what we were discussing anyway. Just a thought, cool item for sure!

Mayb you can make me some clear XVRacing lids :)
Yep, sure could. We would have to discuss how many you would need. The quantity determines the type of material the mold would be made of and the price of the mold. I think I should buy an SW20 just so I could do the project :)

I've actually designed and formed my lids 8 months ago. I haven't spent too much time with it because we were spending more time converting Mr.2 w/ a turbocharger. But, I'll be working on making really nice one's instead of prototypes and they'll be trimmed, have hood pins and have the bolt mounts. The sagging is from the summer heat warpage* its on just the backside. If we would have did a nice bar or rod across the back side it probably wouldn't have happened as bad. I aslo would suggest a heat shield. The vent holes were made to be much bigger to. The really kool thing about the material it's bad ass when you print from the backside/2nd surface. It has a super gloss coat 1st surface finish look!

The stuff (for cars) I have so far other than hood is pretty bland! The gauges for the wrx and the AW11 are as basic as it gets. And I haven't started the RX-7's, it's gonna be pretty custom to install it but I think people will like it. As soon as I get some kool graphics I'll send them over. I do this recreationally on the side. At my job I design visual parts for vending machines Coke, Pepsi, Dr Pepper etc....you guys have probably walked by some of my work at some point in time lol.

Cool deal, sounds pretty awesome. I like my custom design lid, but the weight thing is what's driving me nuts about it... granted I haven't cut out the unneeded section below (in the N/A I built mine on) to leave just the bracing on mine, and I used pretty heavy guage metal for durability/resistance to bending/denting since I've got so many expensive little louvers (those add cost quick!!). I'm floating other options to reduce weight on the S/C lid, but plan to stick with the same basic look/function at this point.

Dude, you can really start a business if you get started on both the MK1 and MK2. There's a member on this board who made a clear F40 style engine lid (slant back from t-tops to wing), but IIRC, he wasn't going to make anymore. I would easily pay up to $600 for a high quality, high durabilty F40 style clear engine lid. Even the basic Pheonix's Power engine vent in Clear would be sweet... come to think of it, I wouldn't mind a clear stock one. Definitely keep my name on a list, if you get one going.

We need to meet up. Where are you in WV?
Yeah man definitely!
I'm 10 minutes south of Martinsburg, WV in a town called Inwood. Inwood's also 15 minutes north of Summit Point Raceway...if you're ever down that way as well. But from Morgantown aka Mo-town WVU BABY, I'm about 4 hours away.

Are there any MR2 meets coming up soon? Does anyone know? I've always wanted to go to one. And know that Mr.2 is turbocharged I'd love to see other tricks to help modify the mini beast.

With them being clear, you can paint the under surface/ 2nd surface any color you would want leaving the top suface with a super glossy look. We did some testing on scap and it looks really good.

The original plan was to form it out of tinted acrylic...like the ferrari's but after finding out the cost of the material plus we have no experience doing yet. But hopefully someday we'll give it a go.
