For both transmissions, the s54 and s51, you follow the instructions in this guide until step number 19. At this point, you swap the transmission case, and re-assemble.

uber easy throw a spyder LSD in there while you're at it I did mine in an afternoon.
The LSD was a little tough to source but well worth it. My 1MZ vvti loves the ratios.

+1 on the Spyder helical LSD.
On Step #11 and #15 - cover the snap ring with a rag, lest it go shooting off into some dark corner of your garage never to be seen again
Re-assembly: You can normally get the 5th gear & 5th driven gear back on w/o a press if you heat them up in an oven to 450F. Then you just need a good pair of welding or mechanics gloves.

Thanks! Just for clarity, are you suggesting a helical LSD from a spyder?

yes helical from an 06 (if I recall correctly) direct fit no mods.
Works great got me out of a snowy driveway, it's a good match strength wise.
I take it easy on the trans as the V6 has it at it's upper limits.
