2GR-FSE sw20?

What are your guy's feelings towards trying to put a 2gr-fse in a mk2?

I'm assuming that it might not be a good idea based on the fact that I've never heard of one being swapped in. Don't plan on doing this to my car, I just think that it's an interesting topic.

I wondered the same, figured it would be harder to obtain with direct injection because newish Lexus motor. Don't even think the Evoras had the FSE.

The problem with the FSE is it only ever came in longitudinal mount, front engine / rear drive cars. It doesn't bolt up to our transmission, and probably doesn't have the provision for the carrier bearing and I would guess the motor mount point on the front of the motor is missing as well. All in all, it just doesn't lend itself to swapping into a transverse application.

Not to mention that there is no hacked/de-immobilized version of the -FSE ECU available to use.

The 2gr-fse to my understanding is only in fr layout like the rc350

ECU might still be a problem, and I don't think anyone knows if any of the other swap parts will work either. If I recall right the manifolds are integrated on this one as well, so no headers needed, but also no opportunity for power gains via headers (who knows if this is a down side or an upside. Would be interesting to see someone try it though.

So, for clarity, are we talking about the 2GR-FSE? Found in the Lexus IS350?
It is a longitudinal block and does not work transverse.
There are a number of prior discussions on this one over the years. It involves combining the -FSE parts with the -FE block, oil pans, and timing cover. I have worked out what is necessary to make it happen, but without a hacked ECU, it only puts down a 307HP factory rating. At this point, with what Marc has available for the 2GR-FE, it’s not worth the effort unless you are going stand-alone, or the ECU gets hacked.

Otherwise, if you are talking about the 2GR-FKS, found in the CURRENT line-up of cars... that one IS transverse as well as longitudinal.
And could be possible. But again, it’s not hacked for our purposes. It is, however, available as a M/T in the Tacoma. So maybe using the M/T ECU on the Camry transverse engine...
