Agreed. The engine is also outdated. The are V6s out now, 2gr, that make more power and probably as much torque. Why go the 1uz route? Its big heavy and doesnt make that much power by todays standards. Keep in mind that I want to bud a 4agte instead of going more modern.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, you'll may see the 1st gen UZ outdated,
old, big, under power.
but.. what I see is the following ,4.0L( no replacement for displacement) all alloy, forged crank, boost friendly, non vvt, not to big. and its the engine the MR2 is been thirsty for, once the UZ is tune whit the GM ECU, will see if the 2GR is better.

1st, You're nuts for doing this swap. In a good way. I personally don't have the balls to attempt something like this.
2nd, I never understood the UZ swaps. For the power they make, a GR could be done and fit easier, make as much hp, if not as much torque. Anyway, what ever the owner wants is the correct engine.
35d, by no means is the GM 8.3 (really 8.1) an LS engine. The 8.1 is what us Yanks call a big block where as the LS is a small block. I wouldn't try to stuff a big block into the arse of an MR2. Totally different animal than the LS.
Anyway, nice project bro.

The 1UZ has two weakness as I see it. The intake is so horrible I am surprised Toyota did it. If redone it will make really good hp. The exhaust is bad also. If you do both of those things and fix that you should make about 300whp and a lot more tq than needed. Then if you regrind the cams and some simple porting you can make a bit more for sure. There is a ton of potential in the 1uzfe for sure if done right and they are stupid cheap. I got an entire engine, ecu, harness and everything needed for $600. A 2grfe would be like 3K or so for the same items.

To 1uz or not 1uz? People consider it a weak engine because it's a sub 300 hp motor? That's a dumb arguement. It has plenty stock hp and tq for a small lightweight vehicle and will run perfectly like stock. I have built five 1uz swapped cars, own 3 of them and working on my 6th. They are great motors for $200-$300. Even the 300 hp VVTi motors can be had for less than a grand.

This is awesome. I love the 1uzfe, its a great engine. However I did DD a 5sp SC400 for a few years and do a 1uzfe swap into my MK3 Supra.. so I guess I am biased

Am aware of the intake been restrictive, the lower intake its not to bad. the top is. the UZ intake resembles the TPI, but doesn't have the smooth flow. the rail and the injectors are in the way. that's why it gets pinch on top. and it gets couple curves on the lower intake I may fab the top only to see how much gain I get. but first I Need to dyno the UZ on stock form to see the difference on HP. I may throw a Quad Throttle body.

The Exhaust system its BAD!! the gasses run into a wall went they came out
#1 its the only one that it has a radius to help the gasses come out #4 its like its meant to block the gasses from 1,2,3,.
and the inside has restrictions as well

Custom header its need it went the time comes am debating if I keep the stock location of move it to the side

I don't know why it's never occurred to me for someone to do a 1UZ swap before. That's BRILLIANT! Personally I'd go with a newer 1UZ or even a 2UZ, but in any case, V8 MR2's rule!!!

Very interesting swap. Hope you are still working on it, or better yet just forgot to post dyno numbers and burnout videos!
