I have an STi motor in the shop and pondered the samething... It will fit and the center of gravity would be "like" a 911-ish setup. My buddy's STi makes like 450hp and he didn't even have to do much to get there... The sound is awesome too

Significantly cheaper than the Porsche as well.

I'm with you on the sound, I know some people don't like it. The main thing for me is ultimately the amount of work it would take wouldn't pay off in performance. There are too many engines that bolt right into the engine bay with absolutely no cutting that makes most of these swaps ridiculous from a performance perspective. STi and Porsche motors and trannies are more expensive than the alternatives as well, so you end up spending more and working more for the same performance.

Oh agree, which is why I'll never do a swap. It's just not worth it. 3.5 V6 is the only thing I'd ever consider and maybe remote turbo it and that's not worth it either. Lotus is my next car, thus I've been saying that for 2 years now. I can't spend 25-30k on a sports car that will literally sit 90% of the time. I two other new cars, so it's not justifiable now. <sad face>

I'm curious to see what lengthening would look like..with the right body and wheel size Mk1 mcr8?

If you used the Audi trans to make it as short as possible, something like this.

Wicked awesome!! Someone should build a replica of THE MCR8s' body and frame put whatever engine and trans you want as long as on the outside it is a sample from one of the styles.

I don't know forum some people think they're on, but if you don't have a serious answer to the question posed feel free to move on without comment.

if you're willing to sacrifice the trunk, the MR2 has the biggest engine bay out of any car out there.

i looked high and low for a bigger one when i made this creation and i ended up right back at an MR2:

so the real answer is yes, anything will fit, it simply depends how much money you have to spend or skill and time you have.

if that above number is right and the viper engine is 37" long, that still leaves a good distance for a transmission and you'll need some kind of custom differential setup that will likely have to be integrated in the oil pan. it would not be cheap nor simple, but it's certainly doable.

the other alternative of going with the setup of that stretched black MR2 above is pretty appealing also if you're willing to do some custom body work.

that said, there's more power available in smaller power plants than the viper. the viper has 8.4L of displacement and only about 500hp. that's only 60hp/L which is rather low, but that leaves a bunch of room for more power before stressing the motor.

Sorry for OT but if you think about spend 30-40k for a engine swap think about this V8
Dont argued? Think harder
I would love to see one in a mr2.
If 400HP is not enough you could order it with a turbo.

it would probably be cheaper than that, but not by a whole bunch. you could mount that motor transversely and keep your trunk

that would make for a hell of a motor

I would love to see one of those in a MK1. That would be crazy. You get all the big power, but keep the high rev character of the original MK1 and the sound of an n/a engine.

that's still quite pathetic when you look at it in terms of power per displacement. but yeah, 600hp is nothing to laugh at either.

It's only pathetic if you like a peaky engine that makes little to no torque.
