I have now replaced every brake pipe on the car, the front brakes are 100% complete and i just have the rear caliper adapters to make. After that i can literally stick a seat in it and drive.

So what does a Mk1 V8 dashboard actually look like? Well we can't use the original speedo which is cable driven and i've no provision for that on the Audi gearbox, and i wanted real world digital figures of what my engine is doing rather than needles pointing "over there". I also wanted extra info as well so i have been busy making this cluster.

It features a Koso RX2N+ unit to handle RPM, speedo, odometer, fuel gauge and all of my turn signals etc, plus it does a ____load more stuff i can't remember, folks usually mount these on motorbikes, but i thought it would be pretty cool on this car.

The four corner digital displays are oil pressure, oil temp, coolant temp and volts (the video chopped my description, thanks windows movie maker!)

Beside the Koso is exhaust gas temp with programmable alarms/memory recall etc and a matching fuel pressure unit is going below that when it arrives. I am also mounting my Lc1 wideband gauge on a pod along with some other widgets.

And yes, it still needs work, i want a chrome bezel for the Koso unit, any idea how i make that? The shower curtain rings look great on the corner gauges lol i just need to add oil/water/volts symbols to those displays.

One of my rear brake setups is now complete, Mazda RX8 front disc with 22v Mk2 caliper on modified carriers....

Anyway now for the important stuff..... i'm changing the company name to Woofsport, meet Alfie our new pedigree black lab pup, he's 11 weeks and loves being at the garage.

So you may see Alfie wandering around the workshop on the webcam from time to time.

Hey Paul. Your probably gonna laugh but something I found that works great for bezzels are the bottom of soda cans. Take a hole saw to the bottom and your set. If you need a bigger bezzel you can get a fosters bear can. I have used these for projector headlight bezzels. Just a thought buddy and its cheap.

Cute dog, looks skinny, but them are some big paws. How does it feel to have come this far and finally to the point of driving it? It's been amazing watching this build and kudos for all the work you've done.

Yeah he's the runt of the litter, but he's doing better now he isn't being bullied by the other pups.

It's getting very nervy now, i've 2 years and about ?10k invested in the project and it still looks like crap

Hopefully the first drive will make it all worthwhile.

How much did you get that dash unit for? And did you have to pay 19% tax, like i saw on the british sites that sold those? That thing looks awesome. How hard was it to hook up?

I paid ?210 GBP for it delivered all in, from Ebay. The wiring is pretty easy, it comes with full instructions, and is fully programmable for any cylinder count etc.

This is where i got mine but i see the price has gone up quite a bit since...

I decided to face reality and try and total up what this project has cost me so far, to be honest i didn't want to because i've just been blindly spending whatever it took to achieve the goal and the ultimate cost has never bothered me.

It's pretty scary when you add it all up but this is my hobby i guess.

So call it $14k US and move on. It could be worse. Look on the bright side.... You will have a car that can smoke cars that cost 4 times as much or more when your done. That and just think of the advertising it will do for your shop. It's money well spent if you ask me.

It's advertising for your shop, you can probably write off some of the cost!! I'd talk to your tax man, maybe there's more in the budget than you think!

Yes we discussed that point on another forum, do you count labour charges on your own car? If so then it's approx 200hrs @ ?50/hr = another ?10k to add to the build cost... but i don't think you can include this cost to be honest.

I made my dash Koso unit bezel, i basically got some round bar and spent a while shaping it to go around the clock, welded it together and filed it smooth. I will either use a good quality chrome spray or have this bezel chromed by a specialist.

I'm pretty happy with this, it still needs more work though.

I noticed the 2 new additions with the digital numbers. Is that where you put time and date?

Exhaust gas temp gauge and fuel pressure gauges, those units were $130 each.

I actually enter the time and date into this unit....

Now all i have to do is get her up to 88mph.
