I'm all in favor of Toyota making something interesting, and I'm happy to think about this car apart from its looks. That said, this thing is hideously ugly. I can't help but feel nauseated when I look at it--and I really want to like it.

I was of exactly the same opinion when I first saw it. But the more I look at it, all it really needs is a change to the shape of the headlights and taillights. If it does make it to production, these will have to be changed at least somewhat anyway. No manufacturer in their right mind builds a vehicle with unshielded projector lenses for US highways. It will HAVE to have headlight lenses.

Matter of fact, MkIV Supra style headlights would be right at home with the curvature of the fenders and bumper, and might actually sort out the front end.

I'm glad someone is trying something. I like the idea of front electric motors. They can toss the heavy batteries and just use a more powerful engine to supply the electricity.

Appearance: Front is mostly good, especially the lights and top.

Back is too ugly. Especially the exhaust pipe area. Rear lights need to be stylish, not just two small ugly circles. Maybe something like <======>

The back looks like a closed pickup bed. It needs to change and needs a spoiler. What use is a fast car if it can't go fast?

I like the seats. Looks like a Moire pattern. Interior is fine, except must have cupholders.
Oh, and the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Some promising ideas; I hope they make the needed improvements so we can all enjoy the new platform.

I think it'd look a lot better after throwing a wing/spoiler on there... And why cupholders? These cars aren't meant to be eating burgers in. I like the fact that they don't have them. I think it sends the right message about what kind of car it is.

Eating inside your car is also optional...and I think it shouldn't be done. Especially not in a 'sports car'. But...that's just my opinion of course.

damnit. I was just having a conversation with Carl Crawford over lunch a few months ago about nabbing the synergy drivetrain out of a Camry and shoving it into a ZZW30. Always beat to the punch.

My idea was that a CVT would be EXCELLENT in a road racing car, and the extra power of an electric motor is never a bad thing.

It looks a lot better in this bright red than the burgundy it was in the first pic's.

Still looks a bit busy to me. Hopefully it would be cleaned up a bit if made into a pre-production model, as opposed to this design concept.

+ Over 9000 with this quote.

I think they are on the right track performance wise.

They need to improve on the stethics side, all MR2s have great looks, this would need work.

This is THE car I am waiting for. The day it goes on sale I buy one. This is a car that looks like no other on the road today, and right away that makes it interesting. Yes, it is a bit loud, but compared to the dull, sad and repetitive cars I see all around me every day, this car would make me feel happy in the morning on my way to work. If they take pre-orders they will have me drooling on their doorstep.

Trust me on this one. If they make this car it WILL be a collector's item. The only danger comes from the Miata which I've seen in preliminary shots and looks interesting.

I can't imagine this car will appeal to the BMW crowd but frankly I regard that as a big plus. I would really like this car in the original 8B8 metallic color as the red makes the car look too fussy.

For starters, the car looked even better in person, a la the Tokyo Auto Salon. That said, a new magazine on the shelves depicts the newest GRMN Sports Hybrid (referred to as the Supra successor) as painfully close to an MR-Spyder/ FT-86 love child. The article goes on to describe the powertrain as follows:

211ps/29.4kg-m 3.3L V6 up front powering the rear wheels
167ps/34.0kg-m front electric motor
68ps/13.3kg-m rear electric motor

Someone smarter than me should be able to figure out the torque and horsepower curve, but in my mind, it looks like a brick with a smiley face strapped to the front of it.
