The problem with hybrid tech right now is simply the battery's, they are just not up to snuff yet, once a new battery comes along then hybrid will be the wave of the future.

Till them screw it, i want a gas eating, fire breathing engine under the hood.

Hybrid doesn't always equal slow.

Tesla mean anything to you?
Not a hybrid. Also, while Tata has just signed a deal with a researcher at MIT to produce a new kind of battery that could be charged in minutes, not hours, no mainstream car maker in their right mind would ever make a car that could drive 200 miles, then would need to charge for 16 hours.

We'll see electric cars someday, but I doubt it will be anytime soon.

I haven't driven the Tesla but it is way overweight. The Tesla now weighs in at around 2600 lbs and no matter how good your suspension it is always going to feel heavy. Sure it can sprint, but I want a car that corners and responds to the road as if I'm a part of the chassis. Not going to happen on the Tesla. And even if I do drive the car conservatively for 210 miles and get myself up to Flagstaff, what do I do then? Drive into a station and swap the battery?

On track I can get 12-15 mpg out of the MR2 for a theoretical range of over 100 miles. The Tesla, on-track is good for something like 55 miles I believe. And what then? Racing over for the day?

Nope. Electric is the most stunted vision on the planet. It uses rare earth metals controlled increasingly by China, the manufacture of the car has a huge carbon footprint. Hybrid vehicles are just delaying the inevitable. Which is hydrogen unless they can get those fast swap battery stations I mentioned.

i completly agree with AlastairMR2, hydrogen is going to be the way of the future. its the most abundent element their is. the only by-products are water and air which means u can pretty much put you mouth on the tailpipe. sure their are problems with hydrogen cars, but those obstacles seem more attainable then the whole "create a new battery thing."

Toyota the infinite cock tease. Ft-86, Supra, and now another MR2. Will believe it when one actually hits the showroom floor. When it does I want mine in black with a real engine please. They didn't put a hybrid in the LFA, an obvious disapointment in the new ft-86 god knows what they will put in the next Supra. Give me the next gen MR2 with a 2grfse. Or hell hunt down the infamous 2.0 liter turbo carolla motor they used in Rally racing please!!!!
