Re-finish T-top frames/gutters?

I've done a bit of searching, but have only really found one reference to this so I thought I'd start a new thread.

The T-tops on my '93 Turbo are missing quite a bit of paint from the metal frames/rain gutters (the area that's located over the door opening). There is still a little black paint hanging on, but they're mostly gray -- whether that's base metal or primer showing, I'm not sure. Either way, it seems like it should be possible to carefully mask off the glass, then sand the metal surface a bit and hit it with some spraypaint.

What I'm not sure of is, what sort of finish did the paint originally have from the factory? Was it a flat/matte, semi-gloss, or full gloss? Anybody here with pristine T-tops want to take a look and let me know? Or if you've re-finished yours, what did you use? Thanks!

I'm actually talking about the outer edges of the T-top panels themselves. Did a little more searching and found a picture:

I guess based on this, it is sort of matte.

Thanks for linking that thread, though -- it was really fun to read through and watch the transformation take place!
