Painted stripping on the back of my 2- what is it andwhere can I buy it

I finally purchased an MR2 after years of thinking about it, and searching, found this one.

The stripping on the back has a bad spot, pic for reference. Looks like I could just peel it off but I don't know if that's a good idea.

What is it called so I can find it to buy more?

It's a pre coloured strip that fits to the rear cowling.

It's called PAD, BACK WINDOW OUTSIDE MOULDING Part number 75959A

REAR MOULDING / toyota | part list?JP-CarParts.com

I wouldn't remove it until you have a new one. That's if you can still get a new one in that colour. Most of the time it gets painted over when the car is resprayed which to me is not how it's supposed to be done. From the looks of your car it's Super Red 2 3E5. But check your paint colour code on your chassis plate.

Thank you GDII, I appreciate the input and the site link.

I contacted them last night, and as you suggested, no dice on a new or used part. There are a few other places I have found that specialize in Japanese car parts and have submitted inquiries with them.

Are there any suggestions on a way to fix this in lieu of finding a new/used replacement part? For a 23yr old car, it is really the only glaring defect on the exterior. Well, one of the few. The rest I know how to fix.

Thanks in advance.

Have you asked Toyota directly? They will probably say the same thing but no harm in trying. I guess the only thing you can do is to touch it up with either a filler and paint or just paint.
It would annoy me too and I'm probably just as picky as you are. I hope you can find one or find a fix for it. I'm sure a good car restorer shop could fix it up for you.

Seems like you can't buy them in the body color anymore but you can order them in black. So that's what I did.

I'll paint it.

That's good to know. I'm not sure what the strip is made from so painting might work if handled properly.
