Sheet metal Widebody

Im creating a widebody rear fender set from sheet metal for my mk2 as I currently am unemployed over summer break. I was wondering if there was any interest out there for a new set of rears fquarter panels for the mk2. They'll be designed so you can either weld or rivet the panels on to the current quarter panel. I was planning to do something similair to the asksport or TRD, but if anyone has a design they would like to see, please let me know. No deposits or anything like that, I'm just curious if people may want some as I will be making 2 back up panels for my own use and could do a few extra for those interested.

My current Rear setup is a 17x10 +35 with a 255/40/17 (I will be using a 275/40/17 and possibly moving to an 18 in the rear) that I will be using with a spacer to set the offset to around a 0. The front is currently 17x9 +35 with a 25mm spacer and 255/40/17 tire. I have a Border body kit currently on the car that I am repairing and fitting the a set of GRT fenders. The GRT fenders though do not really follow the lines of the border bumper so I am still deciding on the change in angle I want the fender to bumper semetry to be.

Please no pointless posts saying, "I think it looks stupid because it is a widebody", or "I think the mr2 should remain stock bodied", If this is you, this thread is not for you, and no one here wants to here your opinion on what you think looks good. I personally like the JGTC look and prefer function over fashion, however I do understand their are others who prefer different designs. I am more than happy to model up a few different quarter panel designs people would like to see before the panel is actually fabed up to the body. If you see a particular piece or aspect of a design, we would love to hear what changes you would like to see, but please no pointless posts without reason.

Not yet I'm still mocking up ideas for the style, so if anyone has any interest in the design of the fender I need input by thursday. I am currently shaping the pattern from pieces of wood and then will be forming the metal over the wood design. Wont have any pics until my new phone gets here friday.

I think its a great idea but be prepared to be patient. I am getting one done and it takes a long time to get the curves done properly. I believe someone from the Philippines mentioned before that there is a body shop out there that made the WB kit in metal.

Can't wait to see what you come up with, good luck....

Yes please do not expect something done next weekend, this will definately not be the case. I'm a student and will be doing this in my free time. Also, my main goal for these is not for sale. This is a project I am doing for myself, I am willing to do some extras for those that show serious interest, however I am not doing this to produce products and will not rush these.

Any ideas on design,? I'm thinking of having a gap where the rear quarter meets the tail lights.

Im not trying to rush you in anyway. as I would love a high quality metal version of this. but like many other threads of this nature im not trying to wait 2 years either.

So take your time make it clean, I would go with the TRD style and not add anything any more fancy then that.

SCTengineering, This is an great idea. I have been thinking of how to build a metal JGTC style wide body for the last few weeks. I am curious on how you plan on shaping the metal. I have some ideas that I wanted to discuss with you. Post pictures ASAP.

Ultra wide body, which is the actual JGTC body work.

Ya I think I personally like the actual jgtc rears the best with the Nasa duct fitted to source air to the trunk. The only portion I am not a fan of is the top portion of it near the door. I always wished it was more of a seamless transition, I dont like the look of the stock piece of the quarter panel on there. I know it helps with the stock body line, I'd just like to try and fix that.

What type of metal are you going to use, as I was thinking aluminium would help keep the weight down and does not rust ?

It would be nice but i'm going with a steel similair to the original body work. It's just easier IMHO for the panel attachment.
