GPS Speedo with Arduino Pro Mini

Hi. This is my first post.

Short story is I want to have my speedo work but I also want to mess with some Arduinos. So.. I'm making a thing.

My attached pic is of my 'pretend' speedo to calibrate on. See this link to see it run its startup routine: (see another post below?)
Right now I have the program 'calibrating' and then running the loop of reading the gps and telling the stepper to hunt for the correct position.

I'm using an Arduino mini Pro (knock off), a Neo 6m gps module, and a stepper motor for gauges. When I get some time I'll post links of parts I bought.

I should be able to take out my cluster this weekend to fit the stepper motor in. I still need to figure out my parts for power, trip counter (maybe), and calibration buttons (maybe).

Couldn't post pics or links because I'm a noob apparently.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Attached to the Speedo

I now have the stepper motor attached to the speedo with hot glue. Check out this video for a preview: youtube.com/watch?v=1HVKifjLIU4
I'm planning to drive around in another car with it today to calibrate the MPH/Step.

*Still can't post proper links and such because noob

It's working

After slowly driving my neighborhood looking like a creep, I made enough adjustments to the program to have the gauge running pretty well. Check the updated video: youtube.com/watch?v=gxXdWLFDEG0
After I get the cluster back together I plan to drive with it like this for the next month at the most. I should be getting some parts in so I can regulate power from the car battery and LCD screen so I can start working on a trip counter. The plan is to try and mount it in the stock trip location.

More updates to come.

I can post pics now. Nice.

I the first pic is of the stepper motor installed and the speedometer is back in. You can see it the motor peaking through the trip gauge.

This is a picture of the strain relief I added on the back. Shout out to zip ties and hot glue.

Weight reduction + 5hp min

Calibration lab

That's the GPS in the car working.

I have a few improvements I would like to make like I said but I recently learned a few things. It seems I can bump up the GPS update rate to 5hz? I'm gonna give that a shot. Still waiting on parts for other improvement but I got a couple in so far.

The other day I drove the car to work for the first time with the speedometer. No real issues except a couple things. First the update rate but I knew that already, second thing was I hit a pot hole pretty hard and it seemed to actually knock the needle upwards 10mph more than its supposed to be lol. All the other normal things like train tracks and other bumps were no issue but apparently this was just right. Anyone have any ideas to prevent that? I don't think it was the needle spinning on the shaft either because I put a dab of hot glue on there first. I already planned to add two push buttons in case this does happen so I'm too worried about it right now but ideally you wouldn't want to be screwing with that a lot.

LCD testing

I'm testing this 1"x.4ish" screen for a trip counter. I resolved how to use the screen and am currently just sending the speed to the screen.

The plan is to connect up this SD card reader I have so I can save my mileage and display this on the trip counter. I would also like a push button or two so I can cycle through 2 trips and reset them.
