The main reason I hear why people don't make underbody panels is that people back out once they find out the shipping rates, but I am one of those individuals that would pay for shipping.
The best bet for those panels is to sell the file to people and have them get cut locally. I have plenty of places around me that could cut them for me.
That only works for the first customer. Then they just post the files on the boards and all of your hard work to make the file goes right down the drain :thumbdown
With the proper amount of creativity you could build a multi piece flat bottom that is relatively small to ship (say a stack of 2'x3' pieces), and then the customer would rivet together. IMHO the small overlaps and bumps from the rivets would be a small price to pay for making it cheap to ship. Plus, when the inevitable damage to a panel happens you could replace a small piece instead of a panel that covers half the car.
It would also probably be stiffer and hold it's shape better due to the double layering at the overlaps.
However, to do this right I think you will need more than just a waterjet or laser, but also a shop that can do bending so that you can make custom brackets to attach it all.
Thats a good idea. I noticed another old thread that someone did make them but shipping killed the potential buyers. I will start making something for myself and see where it goes from there :thumbup
Very good point Alex.
You could make a flange almost like ones on steel sheds. If your halfway descent with a drill press and welder you could do the tooling for the flange cheap enough.
what I would make if I were you would be bbk brakets.
Various companies already make big brake brackets/kits.
