High Plains Raceway

Northern Colorado once again has a track! After 3 years (I think) of no track within 100 miles of the evner area, we finally have a new road course -- and it rocks!.

High Plains Raceway is a club racing track, built and operated by a consortium of local car clubs. A 2.5-mile road course with serious elevation changes, it is very technical and will be teaching drivers for a great while. I ran Time Trials there yesterday and can't wait to go back.

For NorthEasters:

http://www.onyxsyndicate.com/forums/index.php is a great forum to go to. It's mainly people in the Buffalo/Rochester, NY and Ontario, Canada region to sign up and get ready to cruise to Dunnville Autodrome. We do open lapping sessions there, pretty lax but still gotta know what you're doing and follow the rules. Just had my first session there in the MR2, lots of fun!

http://www.dunnvilleautodrome.com/

For $100 (per car registered), we got 8 hrs of racing in. Great bang for the buck.

Here are the Michigan ones;

Gingerman: http://www.gingermanraceway.com/

Waterford Hills: http://www.waterfordhills.com/cms/news.php (This one is hard to find when you drive there. Its on a dirt road and not marked. When heading north, take the second turn into the sportsmans club)

Grattan: http://www.grattanraceway.com/ (I found out that you can camp there)

AMP and NCCAR updates

Guys(generic AND politically correct),

Here's some updated info on AMP I posted on NASA-SE's 'site on Nov 26th. It concerns a news article listed elsewhere (I could find it and add it if you really want):

"The only good thing I learned is that Ernie Elliot will still be involved to some degree. The plaintiff is a NIMBY, but the Elliot name carries a lot of weight in Dawson Co. However, that judge is fairly liberal (for NE Georgia), which may be a problem.

If you go to their website and the google map section, http://www.atlantamotorsportspark.net/directions.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , move north a mile or so up Ga. Hwy 183 you'll see the Elliot shops they ran the #9 car out of for so many years in the '80s, etc. Behind them is Elliot Field. ITS AN AIRPORT!! Doesn't that bother horses?

No extra cost: Zoom in on the shops; there's a hauler pulling out. How hard was that to set up?"

Not much new to add to that;we'll watch and report.

Additionally, NASA-SE has added the NCCAR, North Carolina Center for Automotive Research. Check out http://nasa-se.com/i/tracks/NCCAR.jpg for a diagram. The track has been scheduled for both an April and a September weekend for HPDE 1-4. It is east of Raleigh and I-95 near the Va. line. Check this link for more detail and backtrack to their website. http://www.nccar.us/index.php/Inform...-location.html
I checked Google maps, but saw no sign of a track. However, I have seen pictures, so it exists. The Google thing may have just been old.

More watching and reporting

30 miles from Road Atlanta, 30 miles from AMP and a really, really long way from NCCAR

AMP update

Atlanta Motorsports park, outside of Dawsonville, Georgia is coming to completion soon. Their base coat paving and all concrete work is complete. They will soon, perhaps before April 1st, be completing the racing surface, gators, and gravel(actually sand)traps. Finish grading and shoulder/grassing work are progressing, weather permitting. Cars may be using it as soon as mid-April, again spring Georgia weather permitting.

I have been working a bit at the track since October, and have been around it in my work truck. If you have seen a track diagram or pictures, they cannot do the elevation changes justice. It looks like a lot of fun, with elements of several famous tracks intentionally blended into the design by a F1 track design group. Some idea of the track can be had at their website, http://www.atlantamotorsportspark.net/

This is a country club-like setting, so you'll have to be with a group, or spend seriously significant sums of specie(after the first four 's's, I just had to continue). God knows i can't help with the first, but NASA-SE has a track weekend planned for October 20-21. If you're not familiar with them, they're a really good group of folks. Jim and Julie Pantas and their crew put on really good track weekends around the southeast. Check them out at: http://nasa-se.com/

AMP update

I've been watching this place come together for three years or more, so this is really cool to me.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=b249YUNYUUI

Hope this is really good news for the tracking and racing community in the SE. Could be great news for me personally since I live thirty miles from AMP and twenty five miles from Road Atlanta.

There is a little known road course in central Montana called the "Montana Drive Facility" (actually owned by the state). The Porsche club is the primary group that holds track days there, so I will link to their site: http://bsk.pca.org/de.htm

Not the most complicated course ever, but a lot of fun and super cheap track days.

AMP is now open! Here are a couple of videos Jeremy(?) posted.

I hope to get out on this track with the free track time I earned stacking and moving tires, and I'm looking at mid June. Car's at the cagebuilder's and I'm five weeks out from a shoulder replacement, so time will tell. I'm now done promoting the opening, and hope to enjoy it.

By far my favorite local track, but how is Pueblo Motorsports Park and Pike's Peak International Raceway not within 100 miles of Denver? PPIR is about 100 and PMP is what, 110-120? In CA I would have had to drive a minimum of 3 hours to any track/auto-x action, so this place is awesome. 3 tracks at a max distance of 120 miles. I never see MR2s out at any of these tracks with NASA or CECA.

http://www.pueblomotorsportspark.us/

The front straight is a 1/4 mile drag strip, so keep that in mind when attempting to view road course events. 2012 is the first year for the fresh surface.

http://www.ppir.com/

I see plenty of CO members registered on here, but none man enough to take it to the track! PPIR's road course is inside a redneck oval course that NASCAR used to run. It is still a quality facility and SCCA auto-x's in the parking lot.

Showmedata has been out several times at Pueblo and HPR. I don't run my MR2 with NASA because I have a race car.

Yes, the National Auto Sport Association (not the space agency) does DEs, has a real life Time Trial program, and has Race groups too...

How well attended each of the 3 phases are depends on region (and sometimes event too...) - demographics, competing clubs, etc

I know, I race a 924S in 944 Spec; hence I don't do HPDE in my MR2.

New track in Kentucky

NCM Motorsports park in Bowling Green, Ky, next to the Corvette plant right on I-65. National Corvette club and GM are heavily influencing this, as are Pratt and Riley. This one will be built. And they will welcome clubs and other groups.

http://www.motorsportspark.org/

And only 315 mostly interstate miles from me.

It will be nice for KY to get a road course after Bluegrass failed to manifest.

Amc

I seem to be turning into the kbrew of new track reportage. Heard about this on local radio and googled.

Americus Motorsports Complex, Americus, Georgia. Southwest corner of the state, near Albany. Homepage:

http://raceamcga.com/

And track diagram PDF:

http://raceamcga.com/images/AMC_site_plan.pdf

And a pic:

http://www.georgia-motorsports.com/amc_news.htm

That's flat country, so elevation changes probably look like Roebling or NOLA. Track map resembles Sebring a lot, to me. And its seven plus hours closer to my house. [205 mi., 3:20 from Gainesville, Ga.]

You know it'll be built; they've got over $75 invested in signs alone!
{If this is a repost, too bad]
