2GR-FE Valve Springs, Shims, Timing

I'm setting up my engine for Stage 1 cams from Monkeywrench Racing.

This should be old hat to most of you V6 veterans, but for some others, it might hold some interest.

Starting with swapping to stiffer valve springs to allow revving to 8,000 RPM.

PS. The mysterious release of pressure occurred because my assistant did not line up the valve spring correctly. Instead he pushed down on the valve stem. The valve was pushed back shut by the spring.

Shimming the Valve Stem Caps

The valve stem caps also need shimming.

Resetting the Valve Timing

The timing chain and camshafts were removed for the valve spring swap. Here, the timing chain is re-installed.

I bought the camshafts from Monkeywrench Racing, The shims were included with the purchase. I don't know whether the same shims are used for 2zz.

For now it's the stock rav4 ECU with the increased rev limit. I'll see how it does, and take it from there.

Agreed! Long term, I would love to do this. Maybe next winter.

Any plans to dyno it with the cams?
