i went to the junkyard to get some celica supra fiberglass flares for the rear of my mk1 and i decided it was too hard to take off and then put on my mr . so i found a perfect fit. it's from a vw jetta. 4 door the square older ones the front ones fit all the fenders ,i also found out that hachi or ae86 or rwd corolla whatever you want to call it has the same size and shape fender wells and angles so if you buy flares for that application you can put them on your first gen mr2.i wanted flares for a long time and i know a lot of people want them too.

My flares Sorry pics are so dark, we finished at 4am..

Me and my bud even extended the flare onto the side skirt to give it a more stock look. it's far from finished, but will do untill i do a once over on the car before paint.. I plan to have the plastic trimming go over the newley made line between the rear side skirt peice and the body of the car..

I really did want to leave the rivets too. But since these flares werent made for our cars, there was slight gaps that I didnt want to show. So i took the stock approach and although it lost its "bad @$$" appeal. I think the clean look has always worked for car enthusiasts :thumbup

Flares are a good idea and everything when you have a lot of HP and need the extra grip. However, hardly anyone on this board has a MK1 that needs that wide of a tire to make flares useful unless your going mainly for looks which is still expensive to do for the cost of tires, etc.

Not True...High horsepower not required...I see a need for these for anyone that runs a SCCA Street-Prepared car with really wide tire for autocross. I run 13x8 wheels with 1.3" spacers in back to clear the caliper and widen the track. I occasionally rub a tire on bumps or hard corners. This will meet the SCCA rules of the tire being under the fender.

Great idea!!!
Gonna grab me some rabbit flares this weekend!

Well, technically yes.. but I normally don't think about autocross only cars. Most people that are looking, or were looking at this thread were not hard core autocrossers, like your car obviously is with those expensive 13"x8" wheels. I wouldn't think 1.3" spacers would be good for handling purposes. Hmm.. learn something new everyday. Anyway, good luck..

I bought the ZG flare kit from Zcarparts.com

Just held it up to a friend's MR2 today and doesn't look like too bad of a fit, but then again, it will still take alot of work to make it fit just right.

Also, the ZG flares: VERY HIGH QUALITY PARTS!!! Amazing work on these pieces. Well constructed.

I was suprised too with how well built their flares are. The fiberglass is very very strong! Congrats on your purchase, now lets start the cutting :thumbup

Just dropped the flares off with my fiberglass guys. Should be ~ 2 weeks before I will/can get the car back.

sorry this is alil O/T but what kinda of exhaust is that you have on the blue car?

That would be the ever elusive 5zigen border exhaust system made for the mk1. :thumbup I had to put the cat back on the thing though, was crazy loud with the test pipe in, and the police didnt like it too much.... Can ya see it? hehe

well you'd be correct about the JDM look, since its from japan. Im a friend with a well known ex board member named Trace, who got it for me. I beleive he got it from jarcoinc.com awhile back and (at the time) one of the main guys in charge of the overseas parts that came in found it for him. he then sold it to me. Has the JASMA logo and everything on it so you'd prob have to try looking through a jap importer to find one.. Good luck, and thanks for the compliment!

sweet i live 30 min away from jarco!!! ill call them and ask what it would take to import one. what about did it cost him, u know? and what is JASMA?

jasma is some sound ordinance thing in japan or something along those lines. I have no idea what the cost was for jarco.

that jasma badge was on my muffler for the mkii as well it seems to be on everything exhaust wise from over there

Heres a shot of my car all painted with the flares. You can see where i cut the z flare and molded an extension on the rear side skirt peice, i found this to be the best way to keep the lines of the Z flare.

( I wont see the new 4mm offset wheels for at least another 1-2 months, so the hideous gap will remain for now ;) )
